So I spent some time in Akron lately and I did some exploring…and lookey-lookey what I found.
Yep, that’s the El Paso Taco Truck (@ElPasoTacoTruck) Traveling taco truck serving Summit, Stark, & Tuscarawas counties. Taqueria movil sirviendo a los condados de Summit, Stary y Tuscarawas.
Even their phone number listed is authentic…I think.
So I bellied up to the order/pick-up window and was hit with an overwhelming smell of ass.
The gal peeked around the corner from the rear and mumbled, “You come back in 20 minutes later” and scampered back.
1. I clearly did not have time to wait 20 minutes for ball sack smelling tacos.
2. Welcome to NE Ohio. This isn’t your shit hole town you can beer shits slide your way with mediocre food and a less-than-awesome twitter account and expect to “survive”. We here are accustomed to superior food, extraordinarily friendly food service folks, and a social-media campaign that bangs your sweaty naked body on the kitchen table all night long…and yet still manages to buy you and your hot sister breakfast the next day.
3. If you call yourself a “traveling taco truck” – you probably ought to travel. Your blocks and stabilizers isn’t fooling anyone.
Look-if you want to see how it’s done, pause a moment and see what you’re up against.
Despite being Summit, Stark, or Tuscarawas – you prob ought to step up your game…or go back to El Paso.
Don’t forget to change your twitter handle to @ElPasoTacoTrailer too.

Thanks to all the crews, our staff, and all the volunteer assistants we had at the 11th annual Men Who Cook event on Saturday May 14th, 2011 in Akron #AKRowdy.
Great event supporting SummaHealth’s Palliative Care and Hospice Services. It was definitely busier than I thought.
We planned for about 275 servings in 4 hours….and we were pretty exact on our figuring….except for the 10 lbs of extra lomilomi tomato. Oh well.
Well, I cooked my pork with some Crown.
I produced some damn fine Kalua Pig with keawe wood.
I prepped my lomilomi tomato like a champ.
I set my table up like a Vegas P.I.M.P. Yo check my dice – Dice as big as my……
I acquired buns-a-plenty…
People even dressed up…like Elvissss or is it “Elvi”? And a banana…
Some people got fancy.
We raised alotta dineros and got alotta votes for a good cause.
Sadly, we didn’t win. Booooooooooooooooo.
Luckily we got interviewed by the Akron Beacon Journal and now featured in their article. Sexy.
Additionally, we got to chill with Pete Kenworthy (@petekenworthy) from WEWS-5.
He’s a pretty cool dude that took 2nd place for his white chicken chili.
Also supposedly @montrosevideo and @housewithastove too….but hey, maybe they were clawing to the bar.
Who won? The winner of our entrée category made beef tenderloin. Shocking. I guess Akron’s complex palate can only be tamed by the most expensive cut of meat.
That kind of duhwinning just drives me to prepare a “richer” cut for 2012. We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition…with a surprise.
Maybe I’ll make them Spam musubis. That delectable speciality will surely quell their voracious Akron appetite.

Total of 52 different dishes? I almost guarantee you’d be too full to sample everyone’s entrees. Or…prove me wrong and eat 52 courses.
It’s a Vegas theme so dress like you’re so money baby!

Our dish? Hawaiian Kalua Pig Sliders with Lomilomi tomato.
Are you drooling yet? Want some?
Shhhhhh! We’re planning to bribe the top female judges. #sexytime Heh heh heh.
I better start prepping for the estimated 300…Man, this is similar to a Top Chef challenge huh?
Plus you’ll get a chance to meet all the crews from @QuarryLaneFarms
(QLF’s secret word for this competition in “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a”)
Rumor has it, Pete Kenworthy(petekenworthy) from WEWS-5 has got a mean white chicken chili. I can’t wait to try it.
Who knows, maybe we’ll arm wrestle him too.
So come on out and support a great cause!
